Recently we have done a stunning transformation of one of my old Saree into Anarkali dress at our boutique. We believe that every piece of fabric has a story to tell. The Story Behind the Transformation
I have a green color bandhani Sraee which I don’t wear anymore although it had a lot of sentimental value for me. I wanted to change it into something I could put on special occasions because I still wanted to keep its soul alive. So, I decided to transform my bandhani saree into Anarkali dress due to its timeless fashion ability and flattering shape.
The Design & Stitching Process
To begin this bespoke tailoring project there was need for understanding the fabric and the pattern on it to decide the length of the dress, the type of neckline, and the flare of the skirt for a perfect outcome. I wanted to preserve traditional aspects of the sari while bringing in some contemporary design features. We started by taking close look at the sari’s material, color and intricately woven threads so as decide how best they can become part. After this I have to arrange a matching or contrasting lining fabric and pant fabric.
The Anarkali dress was made by our team of professional tailors who paid attention to every detail. The bodice was well-tailored making it accentuate the figure while at the same time provide utmost comfort and easy movements. Instead of a simple neckline, I decided to make the neckline of the dress in angrakha style. The dress was further embellished with a lace border and a side tussle for glamorous look.
One of the major hurdles was ensuring that the delicate georgette saree was handled with care, particularly when cutting and sewing them. Our experienced tailors retained the integrity of the fabric but still managed to attain a perfect finish. The result was an amazing looking dress that felt opulent.
The final Anarkali dress did not fall short of being breathtaking. The rich colors and bandhani design patterns on the original saree were perfectly exhibited in the new design as well as a modernistic silhouette which added a little bit more sophistication and elegance to it
